Survival mode is one of Left 4 Dead's most challenging modes and you can only expect to survive by using cheat codes. Before you can use any cheat codes, however, you will have to enable the "Allow Developers Console" option in the "Options" menu. You can then host a game, press the "" key and type in "Sv_Cheats 1," in order to enable cheat codes. Once this is done, cheat codes can be entered by pressing the "" key, typing in the code and pressing enter.
Health Cheats
If you can't find a safe spot to use a first aid kit, use the cheat code "give health" to give yourself full health. This can be yours with the cheat code "sv_infinite_ammo 1." If you need a specific item, you can also use the cheat code "give X," where X is the name of the item you want. Following are the names of the items that can be acquired with the "give X" cheat: ammo, pistol, pumpshotgun, smg, autoshotgun, rifle (this refers to the assault rifle), hunting_rifle, moltov, pipe_bomb, propane_tank, gascan, oxygen_tank, first_aid_kit, pain_pills. The same item names can be used with the cheat code "ent_create weapon_X" in order to provide weapon X for one of your non-player teammates.
Infected Attribute Cheats
These cheats can be used to make survival mode easier, or even harder. The first cheat code "z_health X," where X is a number, can be used to determine the health of common infected while "z_speed X," where X is also a number, sets the movement speeds of the common infected. The cheat code "tongue_range X" can be used to set the effective range of the Smoker's tongue attack, the default value for which is 750. You can even determine how much health the tank has with the cheat code "z_tank_health X." Finally, the cheat code "nb_blind 1" will blind all infected to your presence.
