How to Fix Surfboard Cracks With Solarez

Solarez, also known as Solarez UV cure resin, is a resin and fiberglass filler compound that can be used to repair cracks in a surfboard. Unlike conventional resins, it does not require the addition of a hardener as a catalyst. Once applied, Solarez only needs to be exposed to sunlight to cure and harden. Use some fine grit sandpaper to lightly sand around the cracked area on the surfboard. Apply some rubbing alcohol to the crack and use a cloth to wipe off any dust and dirt that surrounds it or is inside the crack. Ensure the area to be repaired is completely clean and dry before applying Solarez.

Move the surfboard into a shaded area. Apply a small amount Solarez to the crack on the surfboard. Keep applying small amounts of Solarez to the crack until it is full.

Place the sheet of clear plastic wrap over the Solarez. Manipulate the Solarez by using your fingers to shape it through the clear plastic wrap.

Shape the Solarez until it covers all of the damaged area and all air bubbles have been worked out. Do not expose the Solarez to direct sunlight until you are completely happy that it covers all of the damage.

Expose the Solarez to sunlight while holding in place the clear plastic wrap covering it. The resin should gel in around 30 second to one minute, depending on sunlight intensity. Once the Solarez has gelled, you may let go of the clear plastic wrap.

Expose the Solarez to sunlight for an additional five to 30 minutes to cure. Do not touch the Solarez until it has fully hardened.

Remove the clear plastic wrap and the Solarez will have a glossy finish. Depending on how smooth the finish is, you may want to use the fine grit sandpaper to sand off any rough edges.
