"Painkiller: Hell Wars," a first-person shooter released for the Xbox in 2006, is a throwback to older first-person shooters such as "Doom" and "Quake." Players who are new to the genre and have played only story-driven first-person shooters, such as "Call of Duty" or "BioShock," may initially find the game difficult. There are a few tips to keep in mind as you play the game.
"Painkiller: Hell Wars"
"Painkiller: Hell Wars" is a port of the 2004 PC release "Painkiller," featuring a combination of levels from both the main game and the expansion pack. The objective of "Painkiller: Hell Wars" is simple; Defeat all of the enemies in a level and make it to the exit. Each level features a different setting; one level has you working your way through a prison while the next level takes place in an opera house. "Painkiller: Hell Wars" features 23 levels and four difficulty settings.
Weapons
There are six weapons in "Painkiller: Hell Wars," with each one having two different methods of fire, effectively doubling your weapon count. Knowing the right weapon for the right task is crucial to success. The stake gun is a powerful weapon, allowing you to pin an enemy to a wall or dismember him However, it is effective on only one enemy at a time, so is not a good choice for when you are surrounded. For these situations, consider the rocket launcher/chaingun combination, which allows you to defeat numerous foes in rapid succession. When you have only one or two enemies remaining, switch to your Painkiller weapon; it uses no ammo and is perfect for defeating the remaining stragglers at the end of a level.
Black Tarot
Black Tarot cards can be set before a level begins and can give you an advantage in that level. Some examples of Black Tarot cards include giving you double the ammunition in a level or increasing your health. However, to earn a Black Tarot card, you must satisfy its unlocking requirements. The requirements are listed on the card itself. For example, to unlock the Relief card, increasing your health to 150 health points, you must kill the Necrogiant boss in less than two minutes. All levels in "Painkiller: Hell Wars" can be replayed, so you can take as many attempts as needed to unlock a card.
Enemy Management
As the objective in "Painkiller: Hell Wars" is simply to defeat all of the enemies on a given level, knowing how to manage these enemies is vital. Always keep enemies in front of you; your weapons only shoot forward, so allowing a group of enemies to surround you can lead to death. Always defeat ranged enemies first; these enemies can hit you from a great distance and should always be your first priority.
Difficulty Levels
"Painkiller: Hell Wars" offers four difficulty levels, each with varying effects. The first difficulty level is the easiest; you lose only one health point each time you take damage. However, you cannot use Black Tarot cards. The second difficulty level allows the use of Black Tarot cards and cheat codes. The last two difficulty modes do not allow cheat codes and let you use the Black Tarot cards. In addition, the enemies do increased damage on the last difficulty mode. Certain Black Tarot cards can be unlocked only when played on the proper difficulty mode.
