Electronic Arts' Rail Simulator, entitled RailWorks, is a PC game that grants control of locomotives to its players. RailWorks is designed to provide a detailed and realistic experience in driving and managing a train. Such precision in gameplay requires a vast set of controls to master. To help control the simulator, there are several guides and aides in the game, developed to assist you as you become an advanced player.
Driver's Guide
The driver's guide is activated by pressing the "F3" key during gameplay. The driver's guide walks players through the railroad in four different modes. The first mode displays a 2D map with pertinent information during your driving simulation. This includes items like the location, the time of day, current speed of the train, the speed limit of the rail, and the next stop. The second mode removes the 2D map, but still includes the information provided in the first mode; the third mode shows a graphical representation of one mile ahead and behind the locomotive. The fourth and final mode of the driver's guide shows the coupling state of your train. More modern games are not just base of entertainment, rather these require some capabilities to play and win. The computer generated opponents fight against the players and defeating them is a big deal. The "Description" icon gives the player an overview of the scenario, including a summary of the steps you need to complete. The "Task" icon gives a more detailed list of the steps, as well as the steps that have already been completed. The third option, "Controls," displays the full set of train controls available to you.
