What Is an SD Card for Action Replay?

Products in the Action Replay series, a line of cheat-enabling video game accessories produced by Code Junkies, allow gamers to perform feats as diverse as instant Pokeball captures in Pokemon, invincibility in Mario Bros. or gravity-defying jumps in Grand Theft Auto. Up-to-date games are not mere base of entertainment, quite these will need some ability to play and win. The computer generated opponents fight against the gamers and defeating them is a big deal. The gaming companies provide games cheat methods to the players so that they could thrash the frightening enemies. These cheats are essentially the codes that are used for supplying a slip to the computer so that the player could win the game. These allow the gamers in advancing to the next stage by just pressing a few keys. Cheat codes are available with all types of games. However, it is advised not to use them very frequently otherwise one can loose the enjoyment once playing for sometime. These can be used when a software causes troubles in computer or freezes it. In some scenarios, the developers themselves deliver the codes so that the players could be launched to the next levels of the game. Not every person will agree that games cheat techniques are the right things to be used while playing games. They think about cheating as a horrific trait and hence cheat codes should not be used. However, these turn into very helpful when the gamer is not receiving any idea how to go forward while playing game. For case, one wants to jump up to other levels without filling out previous ones. The cheats become effective in this scenario as the players do not get disappointed. Some versions of this device use compact Secure Digital, or SD, memory cards for storage while others interact with SD cards in an ancillary fashion.

SD Cards

SD cards are small, flat digital storage devices used to store data for electronic products, or host devices. This type of storage media interacts with Action Replay devices, but also works with products as diverse as cellphones, cameras, video game consoles and personal computers. The SD Card Association estimates that more than 8,000 consumer electronics including products from Code Junkies use SD cards for storage, at the time of publication. These cards range greatly in capacity and speed options.

Action Replay

At the time of publication, Code Junkies offers Action Replay devices for the Nintendo DSi, Nintendo Wii also compatible with the Nintendo GameCube and Sony PlayStation 2. The console devices come in disc form while the DSi Action Replay is a cartridge. These devices allow users to enable cheat codes in their games, including infinite lives, infinite health, all levels and other modifications not intended by the games' programmers. The PS2 version of the Action Replay also allows users to play imported DVDs on their consoles. Likewise, Action Replay lets GameCube gamers play imported game discs.

SD Compatibility

Some versions of the DSi Action Replay also compatible with the original DS, DS Lite and DSi XL feature a micro SD slot, allowing for additional storage of cheat codes, home-brew (or user-developed) games and firmware updates. Wii Action Replay interacts with the SD card inserted in the console to access home brew games. Action Replay products also connect to personal computers via USB, allowing users to download new codes to the device.

Powersaves and Other Products

Other products in Code Junkies' lineup feature more heavy use of SD cards than Action Replay. The Wii Powersaves device advances the Action Replay concept. This 1GB SD card loads customized cheat-enabled saves to the console, which it allows users to share with others and back up to their PCs. Powersaves also lets users rip CD and DVD media to the SD card. The NDS Games 'n' Music uses a micro SD card to store home-brew games and MP3 files.
