Whenever you open the case containing a "Sims 2" game, whether it is the base game or one of the many expansion packs, there is a code on the top of the manual's back cover. It's the registration code. You can't finish the game's installation without it. So, if you lose the manual with the code on it, you will need to find a way to either retrieve it or get a new one.
Sims2Key Printer Program
There is a program available at grusha.me.uk called (see Resources) the Sims2Key Printer program that you can use to retrieve your key for the installed game from the registry of your computer if you lost the manual. You can also print out your key through this program. Download the program when you open it, follow the steps in the next section.
Retrieving Your Code From Computer Registry
Open the Windows menu and click search. Type regedit and hit enter. Click the + sign where it says HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, then click the + sign where it says SOFTWARE, then the + sign where it says ELECTRONIC ARTS. Click the + sign where it says EA GAMES, then the + sign where it says THE SIMS 2. Then click the + sign where it says ERGC. On the pane to the right, you will see a line that says default, reg_sz. In the column called "Data," you will see a combination of letters and numbers. That's the license key for your copy of the Sims 2. Write it down and enter it in where you need to.
Finding Code If You Registered on the Official Site
If you have to uninstall your game and you are trying to reinstall it without the manual, you can find your lost license code if you go to ea.com and choose your region. Enter your user name and password, which is the same that you use to log into "The Sims 2" official site. Click on "My Account," and enter your user name and password. You may have to enter your password twice for security purposes. Click on the "My Games" tab and you will see a list of games you have registered with their registration codes. Write down the ones you are looking for.
To Get a Replacement Code From EA Games
If the above two solutions don't work, you can replace the code through EA Games, but it will cost you $10 per registration code, payable by check or money order to Electronic Arts. You need to send that with a proof of purchase, send a photocopy or a picture of the game disc to verify ownership. It is not necessary to send the actual disc because it can get lost in the mail and EA says it is not responsible for items lost in transit. If you do send the disc, EA asks that you use a traceable delivery method.
In order for them to send you the codes, explain the situation and make sure you include your first and last name, return address, e-mail address and phone number.
