How to Work the PS3 USB Camera With My PC

With a built-in microphone with a four-point array, two angle options and a possible 120 frames per second, the PlayStation Eye makes as handy a Webcam as it does a PlayStation 3 accessory. Unfortunately, the PlayStation Eye isn't a plug-and-play device on Windows PCs, nor is there an official driver from either Windows or Sony. However, the software firm Code Laboratories offers a Windows driver for using the PlayStation Eye for your computer. Once working, the PlayStation Eye works for video and audio chatting, as well as recording video on your computer.

Instructions

Download the free CL Eye Platform Driver for Windows from Codelaboratories.com/products/eye/driver/. It supports Windows XP, Vista and 7 in both 32- and 64-bit versions.

Unplug your PlayStation Eye if it is currently plugged into your computer, and run the executable file for the driver. Follow the setup prompts. If you are missing any of the prerequisites for the program, such as Microsoft .NET Framework, the installer will install those as well.

Plug your PlayStation Eye into a free USB port on your computer, and run the CL Eye Test to test that your camera is detected. You can also test the eye using Code Laboratories' online test utility at Codelaboratories.com/test/eye/.

Open the CL-Eye Device Manager to change the settings for your PlayStation Eye. Once you're all set up, you can use your PlayStation eye in your favorite video editing program or video chat client.
