Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 is an Xbox Live Arcade shooter game in which you must defeat your enemies and collect the geoms they drop to shoot for higher and higher scores. Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 has 200 points worth of achievements to unlock and a cheat you can experiment with, in case you needed more reasons to play this game. Unless otherwise stated, all achievements discussed are worth 15 points.
Camera Cheat
During gameplay, you can press the Right Bumper and Back buttons on your Xbox 360 controller simultaneously to pause the game and view your current stage from a 3-D perspective. While in this mode, the left analog stick can be used to rotate and tilt the camera while the right analog stick zooms and pans the camera.
Basic Achievements
These achievements do not require that you be playing a particular game mode. The first, Magpie, can be unlocked by collecting 500 geoms in one game. Geoms are dropped by defeated enemies and collected by moving over them before they vanish. Millionaire can be unlocked by scoring more than 1 million points in every game mode; this is best accomplished by collecting as many geoms as possible, thus increasing your score multiplier. Finally, Unlocked All Modes, a 25-point achievement, can be unlocked by unlocking all game modes. Locked modes will indicate on the mode selection screen how much progress must be made in what other mode to unlock it.
Waves Mode Achievements
The Phobia achievement can be unlocked by scoring 1,000 points without collecting geoms, which are used to multiply your score. This means keeping more distance from enemies than usual because they release geoms when destroyed. You will also have to avoid moving over spaces where you have defeated enemies until after the geoms they release have disappeared.
The Surf achievement can be unlocked by dodging eight lines of enemies without destroying any of them or firing a single shot. This will get exponentially more difficult the closer you get to reaching this achievement because more lines will spawn in as you play.
Pacifism Mode Achievements
You can unlock the Wax On achievement by rubbing your ship along the entire length of each wall in a stage while playing in the Pacifism game mode. A progress bar, titled Wax On Progress, will appear at the bottom center of the screen as you are working toward this achievement. The portions of the walls you have already rubbed against will be highlighted.
The Wax Off achievement can be unlocked by retracing walls that you have already waxed on. Similarly to waxing on, a progress bar indicates how much you have left to wax off.
The Slalom achievement can be unlocked by entering five gates within a span of five seconds while entering at least one gate per second.
Sequence Mode Achievement
You can earn the 25-point Smile achievement by allowing time to expire on Sequence mode stages 2, 4, 11, 15, 17, 18 and 19, while you successfully complete every other stage, causing the Sequence mode overview screen to form a smiley face. Another achievement, Game Over, can be unlocked by completing the final stage in this mode.
King Mode Achievement
The Treaty achievement can be unlocked by reaching 30 safe zones before you destroy any enemies or fire a shot. Because safe zones only appear for brief periods of time, you may need to skim only the edges of safe zones to reach all of them before they disappear.
Deadline Mode Achievement
The Deadline mode achievement, Rebound, requires you use bullets bounced off gates to defeat 75 enemies. A progress bar at the bottom center of the screen will tell you how close you are to achieving your goal.
